There are many aliens out there that hunt humans, but the only one that seems to have shown any true mercy or feelings is the Predator. That said, they do make humans prey for sport, so I don’t really know how much credit I can actually give them…

5. Alien Vs. Predator Requiem (2007) Predator vs. Predatalien
Definitely not the shining film of the series (fortunately, not the worst of the series) but there were some very nicely edited sequences, most notably when the Preditor hunts the “Predatalien” (Preditor face/smarts + Alien body/acid blood = Prediatlien) nearest to the end before their final battle. The pacing is great and the montage stays true.

4. Predator 2 (1990) Subway hunt
Probably the goofiest of the series, the scene in which the editing stood out (or didn’t stand out, if you think about it) is down in the subway when 50% of the passengers hold out guns. The pacing is fantastic, and there is a creative use of the lights passing by the tunnel that create a strobe effect to enhance rhythm and tension. Oh, and seriously, why couldn’t they have ended the actual movie like this, instead!

Most of the “hunter” scenes aren’t cut to show as much “hunter” as I would’ve liked, but the montage is flawless throughout all the battles and the pacing of the movements in the frame during tense sequences have a particular flow to them that is very graceful. 2. Predator (1987) Mud-covered Ahhhnold
You know, I must have seen this movie about a thousand times since I was a kid, but I don’t think that I ever realised just how well it was edited until I paid attention to it this time around. The entire film is edited well, and it’s a classic-cheesy-manly-action film (which I’m a sucker for…), which makes it that much more awesome. In any case, the scene when Arnold just gets out of the water and is consequently covered in nice cool mud is a particularly well-edited scene in the film. The viewer gets a real sense that they are also being hunted, and that Predator, for some reason, isn’t seeing them. The scene is tense, has great montage and pacing, and is fun to watch.

So! I hope you enjoyed my relatively short post this week. I must confess that there is a slight agenda behind it, however. The Ever Awesome Gordon Burkell (who is the brains behind AotG) asked me to create something that showed off the awesome authority of us editors by way of the kickass alien design known as the Predator. Well, he and I have basically decided that we’re PREDITORS. Spread the word. ;)
